Introduction

Seagrass meadows are vital for ocean health, supporting marine life, storing carbon, and preventing coastal erosion. However, they face threats from pollution, coastal development, and climate change. The “Youth-Led World Seagrass Awareness” event aimed to educate youth, engage communities, and promote conservation. Experts, students, and advocates participated in discussions, interactive activities, and conservation efforts to safeguard these essential ecosystems.

Action
The event combined learning, engagement, and action through various activities. An interactive panel discussion featured marine conservation experts discussing the importance of seagrass and solutions for its protection. An activity-based learning session included quizzes, group activities, and prizes to enhance participation. Educational outreach involved five schools, fostering dialogue between students, educators, and environmental experts. Collaboration with Blue Resources Trust, British Council Sri Lanka, and Education Without Boundaries strengthened the initiative’s impact.

Project Objective
• Raise awareness about the importance of seagrass in marine ecosystems.
• Educate and empower youth to become advocates for ocean conservation.
• Foster collaboration between environmental organizations, schools, and government agencies.
• Promote sustainable actions that contribute to seagrass protection.
